Virtual A&S Post
As a (somewhat) weird follow-up to the bookbinding that I have been doing of late. I realized, while backing fabric and paper for book covers that I needed a place to dry the backed paper/fabric. This is an attempt at a karibari (drying board). Actual karibari are made very similarly to shoji screens. I got the idea for this one from an article for museum conservators, about alternatives to the standard frame for karibari. This is five or so layers of paper over a stretched painting canvas, then stained with fermented persimmon tannin (kakishibu) which provides some amount of water resistance, and helps smooth out the paper.
