Virtual A&S Post

This time with pictures. I have been taking a tour of Japanese bookbinding techniques. These two books are a form of book from the Heian period (794 - 1185) called an Ori hon (folded book - often translated to Accordion book). The binding of these books has taught me about making starch glues, backing paper and fabric, creating heavier cover boards from lighter papers, reading paper grain, and the actual binding of the books.

I look forward to the next type of book that I am going to be doing (Butterfly book (Kochōsō))
